The Sound of Music

I performed The Sound of Music on Friday night and Saturday Matinee. Ruby, my dad, and I have been to practices that would sometimes go till 11 o'clock at night and ones that lasted 6 hours! And it was SOOO worth it! I loved every single minute of it. First of all I love the musical and the movie with Julie Andrews, it is my favorite movie. I made such good friends and it was hard to say good bye to the ones that don't go to my school. I also LOVE being on stage. I watched one of the nights I wasn't in it, and I whispered to ruby in one of my very favorite scenes, "I want to be backstage, waiting for the cue, in our costumes, laughing quietly with the other cast members!" I'll miss it, So very, very much! But there will be other plays. My WHOLE family came and I mean whole family! Thank you Jenny and Ryan and their kids, Niki and Clint, Cade and Austin(and Kiptyn), Jennie and Jeremy, Neeley and Kayla, Jeff and the boys, Michelle and Jake, Lexi, Coco and Bill, Trajan and Ari, Free, Xanthe, and my Mom, and Tricia! If I missed someone I'm sorry!
My friends Amanda, Rachel, Emma, Brenna and Maddee came too! Thanks!
When I was waiting for the curtain to open this poem just started forming in my head, I had to write it down somehow!...
The Dance Scene, in slow motion

You wait. You wait for the velvet, crimson fabric to be pulled away by a boy wearing black in the wings.
It's time. You go in front of the curtain to do a small scene. You say your line. You pretend to waltz with your pretend brother.
And then... the curtain opens, like scarlet water rippling through the air. You see the white, circle lights- which are part of the party set- as the curtains frame them. Dancers in a circle do a choreographed dance. The picture is a perfect image of the stage, the arts, a musical.
You stand. You stand there acting like you are amazed at your pretend house being decorated for a pretend party. And you are amazed. You go off the stage and frantically change from one costume to the next... and then you act like you are escaping from Austria after doing fun dances and songs with friends you have made who share the same passion. And then it is over, all too soon.
